The Presidential fist bump.

unfortunately for this guy, i still had it on my computer and screencapped it.
I think I missed a couple lines/at least one ask in there, but you can see the “experiment” yourself.
So, I am pretty sure I am behind the bandwagon on this one; as such, if my dredging this up offends anyone, I am sorry. I just feel like there is something that needs to be addressed here to the point that even if it has already been addressed, I feel the need to reiterate it.
this is not science.
THIS IS NOT SCIENCE.
THIS. IS. NOT. SCIENCE.
Too often in the past week I have seen the words “logic” and “science” being used to defend deplorable actions that have taken place on Tumblr. And that needs to stop. NOW. Let’s analyze why, exactly, the screen shots above this post are not science.
Science is about observation and recording, especially the so called “soft” sciences like sociology, anthropology, psychology, etc. Very rarely do true scientists in these fields actually interfere with what it is they are studying; it is much more common for them to observe what is going on around them, and then record their findings. However, I will concede that it is often sometimes necessary, in the interest of obtaining insight, to perform experiments. So let me stress another point.
This is not an experiment.
THIS IS NOT AN EXPERIMENT.
THIS. IS. NOT. AN. EXPERIMENT.
Here are the basic fundamentals of the Scientific Method, which is used in ALL sciences when conducting an experiment.
1.) Question
2.) Hypothesis
3.) Experiment
4.) Observation
5.) Conclusion
Now, there are certainly varying ideas on the Scientific Method, but those five are basically what it is broken down to.
First, you need to ask a question. There is absolutely no question being asked here, unless it is supposed to be implied. I’ve searched and searched, but I haven’t found a single scientific reason for why fuck-wikipedia sent the ask that they did.
Second, you need to form a hypothesis. Now, there may be some hypotheses present here:
as expected the blogger “riley” responds in a way that is typical of those on the internet.
Since he used the words “as expected”, we are going to assume that there was a hypothesis thought up prior to him sending the ask. However, you must actually state a hypothesis PRIOR to it being confirmed or denied; otherwise how does any real scientist actually know what your experiment is about?
Thirdly, one must conduct an experiment. Now, there are a few things that an experiment needs to have in order for it to be an actual experiment. The first is a control group. Without a control group, there can be no experiment; in regards to sociological studies, typically your control group is made up of people (note: not ONE person) whom you know will react a certain way to a specific stimulus. I’m assuming that fuck-wikipedia KNEW how Riley would react (because, as seen above, he uses the words “as expected”) to his ask, therefore I am going to induce that Riley was the sole individual present within the control group. You cannot have a control group that consists of one individual. Your margin of error would be astronomical to the point where your entire experiment would be considered useless.
Fourthly, you must observe the reaction that occurs from your experiment. He did this, I will concede. He did observe.
Lastly, you must form a conclusion. He has formed a conclusion based on his “experiment”. But let us look at the facts of the matter.
Let “X” represent parts of the scientific method that have not been completed.
Let “O” represent parts of the scientific method that have been completed.
Question X
Hypothesis X
Experiment X
Observation O
Conclusion O
__________
Unfortunately, without fulfilling all of the NECESSARY requirements for the Scientific Method, what you have done is not science.
…
Now, there is another aspect of science that I think some people fail to see and yet is very fucking integral to being a scientist. This is known as ethics, or morality. Traditionally, soft sciences have been used in the past by white supremacist, and whiteness in general, to promote an us vs them dichotomy. This is a disgusting, horrible part of the scientific communities past that we, modern day scientists, have struggled for decades to overcome. Every time you post shit like what I see above, and then claim it is for “science” I feel physically ill because you’re destroying the good, honest work that hundreds of real scientists have done in order to make our fields truly objective and without prejudice. Ethical science is very much a real thing; singling out one PoC, sending them a hurtful, hateful, and disrespectful (as you so eloquently labeled Riley’s reply) ask is not ethical. You are a disgrace PEOPLE on a whole…not just white people or cis people or straight people…you are a disgrace to the entirety of the human race.
__________
TL;DR Version
If you come to my house (and if it’s reblogged by any of the 50+ people I follow, it’s in my motherfucking house) using the words “science” and “logic” for your argument, you better be ready to back that fucking shit up.
*Riley, I attempted to not misgender you by using third person pronouns, I hope that is alright.
p.s. as much as I LOVE seeing my face in conjunction to this, because I stand by every single thing I wrote in that ask I sent you; if you ever post my likeness again without my permission, I will slam you with a civil suit for redistribution of likeness without permission so fast it’ll feel like a fucking freight train hit you.

Are Dreadlocks really cultural appropriation?
YES
Here’s why:
Dreadlocks originated first with Jamaican Rastafarians and then in Indian Sages and Yogis. Specifically it was started by holy men. These men renounced all of their worldly belongings (Including combs
I was born, raised and i’m living in Jamaica. I agree with you, on whites who grow dreadlocks for no reason except that they love weed. When I left College I was mentored by a Rastafarian who presented information that proved factual and this caused me to understand the importance of seeing divinity though our own African eyes. In doing so i found it necessary to take a personal vow to reject what I was taught about our history and to see beauty first in myself and then in Africa (the totality of Black people). I fell in love with my hair and decided to grow my lock as a sign of rebellion against the systems that have oppressed us as Africans for hundreds of years and as a representation of the naturalistic way of life we Rastafarians practice. This, we use to encourage the growth of our own people globally.
I am now alarmed at the state of affairs I observe with some Rastafarians.
1. Rastafari is life: some see this as an opportunity to welcome whites with dreadlocks as Rastafarians even to the extent of marraige.
2. H.I.M. Haile Selassie Emperor of Ethiopia (seen by some Rastafarians as God) said “Until the color of a man’s skin is of no more significance as the colour of his eyes, the world will not know peace”: Used as another excuse for some to not only welcome whites but to involve them into our dealings.
among many other excuses. Bear with me please. I once sat and spoke with a white American girl who had ‘shitlocks’ and was also convinced that she was Black, who wanted to know what Rastafari was. Being from a hard lined Rastafarian belief I do not believe that whites can be Rastafarians, we refer to them a sympathizers, of which she was befuddled, as her notion was one love and weed -__-. To sum it up the best i could i told her “We do not hate what is white, we simply love what is Black”….she left furious
